SHOKK Tactics ICT system - monitor and motivate young people

SHOKK Tactics is a web-based behaviour monitoring, health assessment and retention system that is used in a variety of settings including SHOKK Youth Gyms, schools, weight management programmes and sports clubs.

Tactics has three core aims:

  1. Educate and motivate young people to be more active, more often.
  2. Help staff to provide young people with a programme of regular physical activity, and, monitor health behaviours and health outcomes over time.
  3. Provide management with key performance indicator (KPI) reporting for retention and marketing planning.

Tactics has been developed in conjunction with the Physical Activity, Exercise and Health research group at Liverpool John Moores University through a government-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership. Key features of Tactics include:

  • Behaviour monitoring: reliable and valid questionnaires to monitor and evaluate habitual physical activity, sedentary behaviour and psycho-social health.
  • Physical fitness testing: a reliable and valid battery of tests to track health- and skill-related components of physical fitness.
  • Retention system: an Incentive Points Scheme (IPS) to motivate young people and reward positive behaviour, participation and development.
  • Member management system: a retention and flagging system to help staff communicate with, and track young people.
  • Training plans: an extensive bank of evidence-based, youth specific activity/training programmes.
